Hello friends,
I am delighted to announce the publication of THE ROBOTS OF BABYLON, my new collection of constrained, formal poetry! Inspired by genre and pulp fiction, it’s a book full of newly invented constraints, old constraints, and variations on traditional forms. A 104-page, full-colour hardback or paperback, it’s available now from both PenteractPress.com and AnthonyEtherin.com. Please consider picking up a copy!
This week, three ‘aelinscapes’.
An aelinscape is a metered poem in which two or more formal poems share meterical feet. The form (or group of forms) first appeared in my collection SLATE PETALS.
This first aelinscape presents an ottava rima in iambic pentameter, intersected by a sonnet in iambic monometer:
This second aelinscape presents a Shakespearean sonnet in iambic monometer, intersected by a triolet in iambic pentameter:
And finally, this third aelinscape presents an ottava rima in iambic pentameter (Moon), sharing the first foot of each line with a monometer Spenserian sonnet (Sun) and the last foot of each line with a hybrid Shakespearean-Petrarchan sonnet (Stars):
Congratulations, these are wonderful!
I particularly loved that last poem!
